The brindle pattern
Brindle is a pattern, not a separate color. The stripes may be fine and sparse or broad and bold. Light brindles look like fawn dogs with a few streaks. Heavy brindles look dark from a distance but still show tan between the stripes.
How brindle puppies change
Stripes can be easier to see on a newborn puppy than on a young adult, and some puppies become darker as the coat matures. When a brindle becomes so dense that the base almost disappears, the dog may be described as a reverse brindle instead. We explain that coat on the reverse brindle Boxer puppies page.
What to look for in a listing
Check the sex, the line and the photos. Brindle appears with and without white flash. If you love white socks and a white chest, see flashy Boxer puppies too.
Living with a brindle Boxer
Brindle does not change care. Expect the same short coat, the same energy and the same need for company as any Boxer. Our Boxer puppy socialization guide shows how to turn that energy into good manners early.
Reserve a brindle puppy
Tell us on the application that you want brindle, and mention whether you prefer a light or a heavy pattern.
Quick answers
Are brindle Boxers rare?
Brindle is common in Boxers. Very dark, heavily striped dogs are less common.
Can two fawn Boxers have brindle puppies?
Not usually. Brindle comes from a gene a fawn parent does not carry, so at least one parent normally has to be brindle.
